VEC 2nds recorded their 6th win on the trot against Rathmines Roosters in Terenure to stay top of Division 2. Although we had the opposition under pressure for most of the game, it took us 65 minutes to take the lead, when Richie Rye was in the right place to poke the ball into the net following a Conor Callaghan corner kick. Frankie Nolan made the result safe when he beat the offside to score our second in the 90th minute, and ensure the 3 points. It finished 2-0. More pics. here

VEC Back in League Action
Another ‘Pat’-Trick!
7 months after his last hat-trick, Paddy Cook hit the back of the Kiltalown FC net three times in the first 20 minutes of the Division 2 league match in Jobstown to give VEC FC a commanding 3-0 lead by half-time. Two quick goals after the re-start – with the elements now in their favour – put the home team back in the game, but we held out for another 3 points.
VEC Tops in 2 Cracking Games!
VEC players celebrate a stoppage-time goal from Conor Callaghan as VEC 2nds beat top-of-the-table Malahide Utd. 2nds 2-1 in this closely contested Division 2 league game in Terenure.
In the Premier Division game on the adjoining pitch, VEC 1sts dispatched AGP FC on a scoreline of 3-2 when Oisín Kinsella came up with the goods, firstly after only 10 minutes and then on 68 minutes to finally kill off the visitors’ challenge. AGP had equalized twice on 15 minutes and 55 minutes, but in between Joey Byrne was on hand to guide the ball home just 3 minutes into the 2nd half …. and this was Joey’s 250th goal for the Club. A truly remarkable achievement – details of which are captured in a separate post!
VEC Edged out of Cups!
Comfortable Win in Cup
Manchester United’s Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer might be regarded as the greatest super-sub of all time, but VEC’s Alonso Houlihan proved today that he can also be called a super-sub. Playing his first game for VEC’s first team, he scored the insurance goal in the 80th minute, just 10 minutes after entering the fray, to ensure that VEC advanced to the next round of the Challenge Cup! This was after Joey Byrne had opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Right throughout, our defense was rock solid! It finished 2-0 in Terenure. More pics. here

The goals came from Chris O’Riordan & Richie Rye with 2 a-piece, and one each from Paul Langan, Paddy Cook, Colm Callaghan, Antoine Daubigny and Jerry Clancy. The other was an o.g. All Square with Neighbours!
After conceding a goal in this friendly match to Templeogue Utd. just 15 seconds from the start, VEC equalised 4 minutes later through Tom Wrynne, before conceding a similar goal in the 40th minute.
However, a ‘screamer’ from captain Joey Byrne on 62 minutes levelled matters once again as the game ended at 2 apiece.
Enthralling Performance in Final Game!
A man-of-the- match performance from midfielder Mick Kinsella inspired VEC to a 2-2 draw against League Champions Malahide Utd. in our final league match of the season in Terenure on Monday. In truth, this was a game we had the winnings of, only for the visitors to equalize in the 90+5th minute from a corner kick. Up to then, we had dominated – going 2-1 up with 2 excellent Joey Byrne goals after Malahide had opened the scoring in the 5th minute. The performance from all the players and the chances created merited a better outcome – but it was not to be!
Wrynne Hat-Trick Leads Rout!
Discounting huge wins in Cup competitions over the years, this win by a massive 8 goals over Rialto FC in the League, matched the 8-0 win over Whitechurch FC in September 2016 which was a VEC’s highest win margin in the Premier Division in over 20 years. This was Tom Wrynne’s first goal in the 38th minute, who then went on to complete his hat-trick with further goals in the 40th and 68th minutes. Incidentally, Joey Byrne, who was also on the scoresheet yesterday, had scored 4 goals in that match in Whitechurch over 5 years ago.
