*Cup Clash* VEC defend the 2nd of their trophies *Cup Clash*

VEC defend the 2nd of their trophies from last season with an opening game against in-form Premier Div leaders Malahide Utd.

VEC form this season has been patchy but the team will be hoping to build on an excellent 3 point performance in the Malahide grounds last weekend against Athletico.

Big game!!

VEC 1 -0 Rialto FC

VEC made it back to back league wins in 2023 with a deserved 3 points on a wind kissed Brickfield's Astro in Drimnagh yesterday.

Chances were hard to come by, as were any glimpses of the beautiful game itself, thanks to a howling wind. But VEC created the better chances over the opening 60 minutes... Jeff de Castro proved a constant thorn in Rialtos side as he marauded up the right flank throughout and the two best chances of the game fell to Aido Hyland in the 2nd half - the first coming back off the inside of the post but the 2nd nestled in the back of the net as a sweeping move down the right side started by de Castro was finished on the volley by Hyland at the back post.

With the conditions at their backs, Rialto spent the final quarter of the game throwing caution to the wind in search of an equaliser; however a solid VEC defence reduced the trailing side to speculative long range shots, the best of which was tipped over the bar expertly by VEC keeper Dan Smyth.
