7 months after his last hat-trick, Paddy Cook hit the back of the Kiltalown FC net three times in the first 20 minutes of the Division 2 league match in Jobstown to give VEC FC a commanding 3-0 lead by half-time. Two quick goals after the re-start – with the elements now in their favour – put the home team back in the game, but we held out for another 3 points.
Last Saturday in the ETB (VEC) Sportsgrounds in Terenure against AGP FC in the Premier Division of the UCFL, our own Joey Byrne netted his landmark 250th goal for the Club. What an achievement! What a milestone!
It took the legendry Wayne Rooney 546 games playing for Manchester Utd. to achieve that milestone; whereas Joey has achieved that after playing in just 432 official games for VEC FC, having made his debut on 21st August 2004 against St. Canice’s Utd. in Terenure. Read Joey’s achievements over those 18 seasons here.
In the Premier Division game on the adjoining pitch, VEC 1sts dispatched AGP FC on a scoreline of 3-2 when Oisín Kinsella came up with the goods, firstly after only 10 minutes and then on 68 minutes to finally kill off the visitors’ challenge. AGP had equalized twice on 15 minutes and 55 minutes, but in between Joey Byrne was on hand to guide the ball home just 3 minutes into the 2nd half …. and this was Joey’s 250th goal for the Club. A truly remarkable achievement – details of which are captured in a separate post!
