VEC Advance in LFA Junior Cup

With just 12 minutes left on the clock away to Ayrfield Utd. on Saturday, VEC were staring at an early exit from the LFA Junior Cup; that is until Joey Byrne (9) popped up with his 2nd goal on the day (click on pic.) and then Seamus Staunton heading in a powerful header with just 7 minutes remaining, to give VEC a deserved 3-2 win over the Leinster Senior League outfit.

The home team had opened the scoring with a well taken breakaway goal in the 17th minute and held onto that lead until the 53rd minute when Joey scored his first goal. VEC fell behind for a second time some 15 minutes later, before the second comeback in the 78th minute. We move on to the next round!

3 Wins out of 3!

This James McGauran 30-minute strike ensured that VEC took all 3 points against Glasnaion FC in Johnstown Park in the Premier Division on Saturday.

Despite creating plenty of chances, VEC couldn’t add another goal and held out for a 1-0 win to make it 3 wins out of 3. See more pics here!

Two Good Wins for VEC!

This was Paddy Cook’s brilliant strike in the 20th minute which flew into the top corner of the net for VEC 2nds second goal against Frank Celtic, as we recorded a comprehensive 5-0 win in this Division 2A match Terenure on Saturday.

Colm McSharry had opened the scoring 10 minutes earlier and added another later on, while VEC’s other goalscorers were Ronan Corbett and Conor O’Neill.

In the earlier Premier Division fixture, Seamus Staunton had his 34th minute penalty saved before scoring two goals in the 54th and 55th minutes to secure VEC’s 2-1 win over Arthur Griffith Park FC, after the visitors had taken an unexpected 2nd minute lead.

VEC 2nds Stumble!

After a good start to the season, VEC 2nds failed to take their chances in this Division 2A clash in Terenure and eventually succumbed to a 3-0 loss to Stedfast Utd. on Tuesday.

Trailing 2-0 at the break, VEC had a number of chances in the third quarter to get back on terms, but couldn’t find the back of the net and once Stedfast got the third goal mid-way through the half, unfortunately there was no coming back for the home team.

First Competitive Match in Exactly a Year!

Oisin Kinsella about to score VEC’s first goal of the season in the 7th minute in our Premier Division match against Beech Park FC in Terenure on Saturday. 6 minutes later, Pat Meghen added a second and that completed the scoring as VEC failed to hit the net again despite numerous chances, particularly in the final 15 minutes.

So the new season begins with a 2-0 win and 3 points in the bag and hopefully many more to come in the weeks and months ahead!

Pre-Season Tournament ends in a 5-5 Draw!

With VEC winning 3-0 after 30 minutes and cruising, St. Marys Boys scored this goal to begin a remarkable comeback in this pre-season tournament ‘final’ in Terenure in early August.

VEC’s understrength squad were unable to prevent the opposition clawing their way back into this crazy game which finished 5-5. Seamus Staunton scored two of VEC’s goals, Joey Byrne and Jordan Howard got one each and an o.g. In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, VEC scored 4 to St. Marys Boys 5.

VEC Reach Final

On the day that VEC goalkeeper Richie Hannify returned to action after nearly a year lay-off, he could do nothing about AGP’s two goals in a game that VEC eventually won 3-2.

Joey Byrne opened the scoring for the home team with a delightful header from a perfect Jordan Howard cross in the 14th minute (pic.) while Seamus Staunton restored VEC’s lead 3 minutes into the second half and Pat Meghen scored the final goal as VEC advanced to meet St. Mary’s Boys in this Pre-season Tournament Final on 7th August.

Meanwhile VEC 2nds upward spiral continued with a comprehensive 5-3 win over Stedfast Utd. on the same day. VEC’s goals came from Ryan Brady (2), Eoin Sweeney, Colm McSharry and Manny Mansuk.

VEC Record Another Win

Goals from Tom Wrynne in the 32nd minute and Seamus Staunton five minutes later set VEC on their way to a 2-1 win over Glasnaion FC in Terenure on Saturday.

Although the visitors pulled one back in the 55th minute, it wasn’t enough as there were no further scores despite a few good chances that we had to wrap it up … meaning that we spent the final 10 minutes defending our lead. In the end … 3 points! Click on image to enlarge. Click here for more.

VEC Show Improvement with a 3-2 Win

Jamie Ryder (pic.) scored 2 good goals as VEC 2nds recorded their first win in the UCFL Pre-Season Tournament in Terenure on Wednesday.

Ronan Corbett added a lovely third goal making it 3-1, before the visitors Tamh-Leacht FC made it 3-2 with the last kick of the game, giving VEC keeper Tim Gleeson no chance from the penalty spot.
