Coolock Village 0 - 2 VEC

VEC's great start to the season continued under lights last Friday night with a hard earned victory over Coolock Village.

In particular, this 4th consecutive league cleansheet has provided an excellent foundation for this positive run of results.

The game was a hard fought battle between two athletic sides and fitness was a necessity when faced with the vastness of the all weather pitch in the AUL Complex

VEC had the lion's share of possession in the first half with Frankie Nolan unlucky to see his deft touch tipped onto the post by the home side's keeper. The possession amounted to very little, however, as Coolock defended resolutely and proved difficult to play either through or around.

The second half saw half chances creep in as the sides tired. But it was VEC who seized the opportunity injecting huge pace into the attack with the introduction of Paddy Cook, Paddy Legros and Antoine Daubigny.

It didn't take long for the bench to make an impact with Legros playing Daubigny in behind and the French man dispatched exquisitely across the onrushing Coolock keeper to give VEC the lead on 79 minutes. VEC had all the momentum in the final ten and Paddy Cook then stepped up with a slaloming run down the right wing to set Tshepo Montsho up for the 2nd on 82' to secure the 3 points.

A hard fought win, making it 10 from a possible 12 for VEC.

Next up, a trip across the city to face Malahide Utd 2nds on Saturday morning.

Our newly promoted VEC side has had a strong start to life in Division One with 7 points from a possible 9 👏

Unfortunately, after 50 years in the Premier Division VEC made the tough decision to disband its first team squad this season leaving our newly promoted Division 1 side to fly the flag for the club!

Car Parking

For visiting teams to the ETB [VEC] Sportsgrounds in Terenure: There is an on-site car park; however on busy matchdays it fills up very quickly and the main gates of the Sportsgrounds may be closed. Limited on-street parking is available on Rathdown Park and Rathdown Avenue nearby [Watch for Clearway]. Please do not block residents and their driveways. There is also ‘Pay and Display’ bays and a public car cark in Terenure Village – all within a 5 minute walk to the ETB [VEC] Sportsgrounds.
