Quarryvale FC v VEC FC

We exited the LFA Junior Cup after a great battle with a very good Quarryvale team. All the goals came in the first 30 minutes with the home team opening the scoring after 5 minutes, followed 5 minutes later by a great headed equaliser from Shane O’Connor for his first of the season. A further 5 minutes on and Quarryvale restored their lead only for VEC to draw level again with a brilliant strike from Paddy Cook on the 20th minute mark. Unfortunately 10 minutes later. we conceded a third goal, which ultimately knocked us out of the cup.

VEC FC v Confey FC

This was the dramatic equalizer by Pat Meghen (no.8) in the 4th minute of added-time, which forced this match into extra-time. The visitors had opened the scoring in the 60th minute and must have thought they had done enough to win this cup tie. They looked deflated after that last-gasp goal and just 7 minutes into extra time, Andy Hooke scored his first goal for VEC, followed by a 3rd from Andy Howell 6 minutes later, to ensure that VEC advanced to the next round of the LFA Junior Cup, where we will play Quarryvale FC from the AUL.

Blanchardstown Athletic v VEC FC

This vital save by Richie Hannify in the first minute of this cup match, sparked VEC into life. Thereafter, most chances for both teams came from set pieces, with VEC having most of them. But it was not until the 50th minute that we deservedly took the lead when Joey Byrne’s corner kick was headed into the net by Frankie Nolan. Then, 20 minutes later, a well-worked Blanchardstown free kick sailed into the corner of the net to make it 1-1.

With the match heading for extra-time, a breakaway, after defending another VEC free-kick, saw the home team go the length of the pitch and secure an unlikely winner in the 90+3rd minute. We wish them well in the next round.

St. Patrick’s CYFC v VEC FC

After conceding goals in the 6th and 20th minutes, we re-grouped in the second half and created a number of chances, but none of them found the back of the net. Then with just 10 minutes remaining, we got caught on the break as the home team scored their 3rd, against the run of play, before they were reduced to 9 players for indiscipline, to put it mildly! VEC FC v Trim Celtic

This own goal from a Brian O’Reilly cross brought VEC level in the 40th minute after Trim Celtic had opened the scoring with a spectacular volley 10 minutes earlier: https://fb.watch/fE8hVeMJ-S/

With only 10 minutes remaining, the visitors went ahead against the run of play, it has to be said – also through an o.g. – and then scored a third –  in the 87th minute to advance to the next round.
