On the day that Joey Byrne surpassed Noel Ryan's all-time scoring record for VEC FC

Joey immediately after the Challenge Cup game in Harmondstown on 7th October 2017 and with Noel Ryan.

In the process of advancing to the next round of the Challenge Cup, Joey Byrne scored 2 goals to surpass Noel Ryan's long-standing record of 198 goals for VEC FC against St. Anthony's Utd. in Harmondstown.

His first goal to equal the record was pure class and came in the 34th minute. His record-breaking 199th goal came just 6 minutes later.

Joey thus became VEC's all-time record goalscorer with 199 goals.

The game finished 10-0. Aidan Hyland scored a hat-trick on his return from injury (pictured below with Joey), and there was a brace each from Joey Byrne, Pat Meghen and Mick Kinsella (pictured below), with Killian Finlay scoring the 10th before the referee blew the final whistle.

Later, VEC's number 9 received a deserved bottle of bubbly from his team-mates (see below)

For the record, Noel Ryan was VEC's top goalscorer in seasons 1986-87, 1988-89, and 1990-91.
Joey Byrne was VEC's top goalscorer in seasons 2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07, and 2010-11.
