8th May 2019 - Premier Division
VEC 3-0 Lakeview Swans

AR "WRYNNE" NA MUICE

Tom Wrynne broke his VEC duck against the Swans this evening in Terenure with a powerful hattrick! The rugged Galway man gave VEC a first half lead (pic.) after great work from Anto Dunne and Joey Byrne down the right. Wrynne then rattled the crossbar with a bullet header in a clear statement of intent from the goal starved striker and continued on before the half time whistle to slot home a perfectly weighted Seamus Staunton throughball. Lakeview enjoyed some encouraging first half spells and with a strong wind at their backs had a fair amount of territory but were restricted to efforts from distance throughout and VEC put some excellent passages together and played with a high tempo which definitely ruffled the Swans' feathers.
The second half opened with VEC taking the foot off the gas a bit and the Swans made efforts to reduce the lead but again were restricted to set pieces and pop shots. While at the other end Wrynne could smell blood in the water... and his 3rd goal felt like more of a formality than anything else and as the ball was whipped in from the wing Wrynne burst into the box, took flight and played chicken with the Swans keeper in the air before burying a header into the back of the net. VEC's ugly duckling had become the golden goose and had his hat trick!
VEC played out the closing stages of the game with the lion's share of possession, Andy Myler, Aidan Hyland and Sam Jackson all going close when introduced late on, with Jackson seeing his smart effort rebound off the butt of the post.
VEC now have 1 league game left to play against Castle Celtic with Coolock Village 6points back in 2nd with 2 tough games in hand against Liberties and South William St Celtic.

Well the €60 cost of the round trip was well worth it ....
to see Tom break his duck in style ⚽⚽⚽, Joe Salah right back at it, James McGauran playing like James Milner, Jackie Alves roaming down the wing, *Sham getting the right weight on a through ball*, Evergreen Hyland return from his holiday, Rob playing with a patience and composure that he'll need to maintain in the early stages of his new relationship, Clean Sheet Hannify delivering on short notice and Andy Myler deliberately ignoring all other duties in an attempt to score the goal of the season during his 19 minute stint.

Sam did well when he came on, and Shocko, Gav, Ray, Bres, Pat and Anto also played but their usual excellence means they aren't noteworthy in this instance.

The man himself....
